Education Environment 10 yrs From Now

Technology is advancing so fast that education may just take a totally new meaning in 10 yrs time. As of now, lessons can already be delivered on the internet with audio and visual output.

Soon, students will be able to access the lesson from a common data based server as and when they need to and learning will take place at their own pace. The definition of school will no longer be a place where content is delivered but a place where students can check if understanding has taken place.

Imagine... a student may need only to attend school 3 days in a week and the rest of the time will be spent on learning online and doing charity work as a form of CCA. This student have accessed to a data based of subjects where he can choose from, based on his interest and complete the module at his pace with a online examination or project work at the end of the module as a form of assessment. When he finished his required module for the year, he can spent the rest of his time developing himself in other areas like salesmanship, entreprenuership skills etc. Or when he wants, he can join an excursion team to do research or venture overseas to participate in cross cultural activities. The time frame to major exams will no longer be an issue, because any student who mastered the topics can do 'O' Levels, even if it is just 2 years!

This may be the education environment in the near future. And I believe this is not too far from now. The responsibility of learning will be transferred back to the students. By then the motivation of student will play an even greater role in determining the success of that student.
